Working Together (Departments in Hotels)


Management 
  1. Oversee all functions of  
    the business 
  2. Make decisions 
  3. Make sure the business is 
    operating profitably and 

    meeting customer needs 
  4. Set measureable goals
    and achieves them
Front Office 
Handle all activities involved  with: 
  1. telecommunications 
  2. making reservations 
  3. uniformed services – assist 

    with luggage, parking, opening 

    doors, transportation 
  4. checking guests in and out 
  5. concierge services - helping 
    guests while they are on the
  6. property
Housekeeping

  1. Follow guidelines or quality controls to prepare 
    rooms for guests  
  2.  Launder and repair linens 
  3. Make sure building, furniture, floors, and all 
    public areas are clean 
Accounting

  1. Keep track of all the money that flows into and out of the business 
  2. Assist management with cost control 
  3. Prepare and analyze financial statements 
Food services 
  1. Level of service of property usually determines level of food service available
  2. Banquets and catering are important for full-service hotels 
  3. Some Bed and Breakfasts are known for home cooked meals
  4. Colleges and senior housing have dining areas 
  5. Some hotels have room rates that include meals 
  6. A room rate that includes meals is called a meal plan 
  • Dormitories 
  • Club-Med

  Engineering & Maintenance
  1. Make sure that all the equipment, plumbing, electricity, and Building facilities are working properly 
  2. Maintenance of building and equipment 
  3. Grounds keeping including landscape, pools and spas 

Security

Prevent harm to business: 
  1. Property
  2. Employees 
  3. Guests 
  4. Guests’ property
Marketing and Sales  
    1. Learn what customers want and need 
    2.  Develop the products that meet the needs and wants 
    3. Promote the products and services 
    4. Sell the lodging property and its services


    Human Resources
          Manage all employee issues including: 

          1. Compensation - Pay 
          2. Benefits 
          3. Recruiting - Hiring 
          4. Termination - Firing 
          5. Training
